Next class session begins February 6th, 2012

Rehabilitation Classes

These classes differ from recreational equipment classes because they are designed to rehabilitate. Each class has an educational component, teaching you functional motion, as well as an interactive component, where you apply what you have learned. You will learn how to achieve better movement through the specific region the class focuses on.

Arthritis

Yoga For Arthritis

A good way to approach life with arthritis from all angles! The controlled stretches in conjunction with deep breathing exercises release the muscles that have seized up around the joints to protect them. Yoga can help manage Arthritis pain and prevent further wear and tear on the joints by realigning, strengthening, stretching, and balancing the body. The physical aspect keeps muscles both supple and strong which can help keep bones in proper alignment. The mental aspect is just, if not more, beneicial to anyone who is on a healing pathway.

Back Pain

Back Pain Recovery

People who have had chronic back pain have difficulty moving fluidly. We had you in mind when we developed this class. If you are recovering from chronic back pain or have just completed physical therapy, this class will give you a gentle direction to continue your progress and prevent a re-occurrence. This class draws upon the concepts of lengthening your spine, figuring out how to organize your movement, and how to move more in your center. This will allow you to unload the over-worked parts of your spine, adding a more "connected" feeling to your movement. The concepts in this class will carry over, improving movement patterns for daily living. The Pilates Reformer/Tower apparatus is used.

Shoulder, Upper Back and Neck - Level 1

We've designed this class as the first step to solving a persistent shoulder, neck or upper back problem. Each class provides some anatomical learning and exercises that bring awareness to areas of tension and how to relieve them. The majority of each class involves exercises that organize the shoulders, head, spine and pelvis in association with movements of the arms, using the Pilates Reformer and Tower. You will clearly understand how these exercises are similar to movements in your daily activities.

Shoulder, Upper Back and Neck - Level 2

Once you have learned the basic anatomy and mechanics of the upper body; you'll learn to coordinate movements of the arms with your spinal motion and stabilization... as you would when you vacuum or lift a bag of groceries. Movement goes all the way through your body from your foot to the outstretched arm to get your hand where it needs to be. You will clearly understand how these exercises are similar to movements in your daily activities. Pilates Equipment is used in this class.

Osteoporosis

Pilates For Bone Health

Our "Bone Health" class is designed to address one of the fastest growing health risks in the United States Today. Our longer life expectancy and changes in our nutrition put us at risk for out-living our bones. The skeleton is the framework that allows us to move through space, as the muscles that attach to it contract. Joints that are well aligned with proper muscle balance stimulate the bones and improve their density.

Poorly designed exercise classes can increase the risk of bone fractures. An understanding of good posture and proper muscle balance are conceptual cornerstone to our Pilates for Bone Health Class. Pilates springboards and other props and tools are used th provide the necessary assistance that most of us need to experience good alignment and to properly "load" the body with resistance to stimulate growth. Small group classes allow time for the instructor to provide hands-on instruction and knowledge... not just exercise. Our philosophy is to do it, but do it right! Improve your health and have fun in a safe environment.

Scoliosis

Pilates For Scoliosis

A diagnosis of scoliosis doesn't have to by mystifying. It requires that you understand the curves and rotations of your spine and work with your body to maintain good alignment. You will learn to manage your scoliosis with conscious breathing techniques, proper body mechanics, knowledge and postural strengthening. This is an unusual class limited to a few select people at a time using the Pilates Springboards.

Springboard

As a contemporary piece of equipment, the Springboard adds another dimension to your Pilates repertoire. Using arm and leg springs for resistance and the rollback bar, you will strengthen and tone your arms, legs, abdominals, and back. With a small class size you will receive individualized instruction and corrections to streamline your workout.

Stability Chair

The chair helps rebalance muscles and provides a full body workout on a smaller surface area than the Allegro. Exercises are done lying, sitting, and standing on the chair, which will challenge, balance, and strengthen differently than the Reformer.
