Rehabilitation Classes

Arthritis

Yoga For Arthritis: A collective approach to yoga that includes not only asana (movement), but breathwork, mudras, affirmations, guided meditations, relaxation and more. A good way to approach life with arthritis from all angles! The controlled stretches in conjunction with deep breathing exercises release the muscles that have seized up around the joints to protect them. This class will help you delve deeper into your true self to understand how yoga can help play a larger part in bringing you back to balance.

Back Pain

Reformer

Back Pain Recovery: People who have had chronic back pain have difficulty beginning to move normally. We had you in mind when we developed this class. If you are recovering from chronic back pain or have just completed physical therapy, this class will give you a gentle direction to continue your progress and prevent a reoccurrence. You'll learn how to unload the over-worked parts of your spine and how to move again without feeling like you have to "guard" your back. This class makes use of the Pilates Reformer/Tower apparatus.

Lower Back, Pelvis and Hips: Do you feel like you have gotten "stiffer" each year in your low back and hips? Do you sometimes have an "achiness" in these joints? Learning how the low back, pelvis and hips work together is part of the answer to relieving this discomfort. You'll have a series of exercises to take home with you at the end of this eight week class that will help keep you moving well everyday. This class uses the Pilates Reformer/Tower apparatus.

Shoulder, Upper Back and Neck - Level 1: We've designed this class as the first step to solving a persistent shoulder, neck or upper back problem. Each class provides some anatomical learning and exercises that bring awareness to areas of tension and how to relieve them. The majority of each class involves exercises that organize the shoulders, head, spine and pelvis in association with movements of the arms, using the Pilates Reformer and Tower. You will clearly understand how these exercises are similar to movements in your daily activities.

Shoulder, Upper Back and Neck - Level 2: Once you have learned the basic anatomy and mechanics of the upper body; you'll learn to coordinate movements of the arms with your spinal motion and stabilization... as you would when you vacuum or lift a bag of groceries. Movement goes all the way through your body from your foot to the outstretched arm to get your hand somewhere. You will clearly understand how these exercises are similar to movements in your daily activities. The Pilates Springboards are used in this class.

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer Recovery: Using spring resistance equipment, these gentle and very specific exercises help restore mobility, improve posture, and regain strength. It will promote participants to build endurances and take control of their recovery.

Osteoporosis

Pilates For Osteoporosis: If you have ever been told that your bone density is an issue, there's more to the answer than just medications. Well designed exercises will help you maintain appropriate alignment of your spine and hips, reducing the stress to vulnerable joints; as well as improving your bone density. If you have been looking for a class that is safe and effective for osteoporosis and osteopenia, this is the one!

Scoliosis

Pilates For Scoliosis: A diagnosis of scoliosis doesn't have to by mystifying. It requires that you understand the curves and rotations of your spine and work with your body to maintain good alignment. You will learn to manage your scoliosis with conscious breathing techniques, proper body mechanics, knowledge and postural strengthening. This is an unusual class limited to a few select people at a time using the Pilates Springboards.
